What to do after you catch a fly…

REST!!!

Spring walked into the study, stretched and walked up Richard’s leg, onto the desk, and back onto his chest, and draped herself over his shoulder! No hesitation, completely relaxed, happy.

Tea and Prayer

I really enjoy a cup of tea..  with a friend,  with a book,   anywhere,   anytime.  Today I made a cup of Kashmir tea a friend had brought to me from her travels.  I added some mint from my garden and some sugar, and found it reminded me to pray for the people of Kashmir.  Then I realized that on my tea shelf I have tea from not only Kashmir, but India, Turkey and Scotland among a variety of other everyday teas.  I think I’ll remember more to pray as I drink my tea, talking with my Best Friend, Jesus the Christ.

Sir James Galway celebrates Mozart

Posted by Nancy on 19 Mar 2006 | Tagged as: Community, Life

WOW!!! GREAT CONCERT!! Sir James Galway conducted 2 Mozart pieces and played/conducted one more, and the he and his wife, Lady Jeanne Galway, played/he conducted 2 more, then he finished up with 2 Irish tunes for a final encore! SWEET!!!! Sir James gave a whole new meaning to the term “Light Classical”! He made it exquisite, delicate, perfect! A real treat!!

Christopher Newport University’s new Ferguson Arts Center performance hall is absolutely stunning in its acoustical quality. It was so nice to listen to a performance “unplugged”! There was a beautiful clarity in the sound, far surpassing the best “produced” music. The tone quality was such that I think it must be most difficult to reproduce electronically.

I was so blessed to enjoy this concert, live and in person, with my husband Richard and son Sean & daughter-in-law Amy. We had a wonderful time!! Wish you could have been there with us!

No time for pics

We had the joy of babysitting our three local grandkids twice this week for a few hours each time. However, I was so busy that I didn’t have time to even think about taking pictures!! There were some really precious opportunities, though!

Eating Crow

Well, yesterday I was able to contact the insurance and provider people quickly, find out what the problems were, and get them resolved. That’s the good news. The not-so-good news is that …basically, (shhh), it was my fault. Lack of communication and knowledge of facts. Oh, well. Please forgive my rant of yesterday. Oh, yes… the people I spoke with were very helpful and pleasant to speak with.

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

INSURANCE!!

Is it really worth it?

I suppose so, but getting any changes running smoothly between providers and insurers is certainly - at the least - difficult!!

I’ve just started Medicare (3 months ago) and moving my former insurance into the “secondary” position. And because there are CHANGES, PEOPLE (who are indeed “creatures of habit”) and do make mistakes, and COMPUTERS involved, there will understandably be problems during the change-over period.

So, I get to search out the problems, wade through the internet and the automated phone systems, and figure out what’s gone wrong and keep on everyone/thing until the results are as they should be.

Frustration… and more opportunities to become more like Christ! Thanks to God, I don’t have to do this alone!! He is more than just an active participant in the process! :-)

Organizing!

Posted by Nancy on 11 Mar 2006 | Tagged as: The 100-year-old house

The last time I felt really organized was around 1986-88. I was homeschooling our two younger sons and I was ORGANIZED!! All my files, for running the household and for teaching, fit nicely in my Steelcase metal office desk. All my books were neatly on the bookshelves. Anything I needed, I could find! Then… Life happened!! And I haven’t been able to find anything since!!

Until TODAY. My husband has been after me for some time now to “clean” my desk area. I no longer have my Steelcase desk. He said he was absolutely NOT going to haul it upstairs when we moved into this c.1900 two-story house! So I now have a very nice, SMALL wooden desk and two filing cabinets and a couple of plastic drawer stands. Oh, yes… and a closet. AND papers all over everywhere!!

So TODAY, I sat down and started shredding papers. Yes, I checked both on the internet and with our accountant and established reasonable time periods for keeping files, beyond which I can get rid of most things… keeping those necessary files (the ones you’re supposed to keep forever, like income tax returns!). So I spent most of the day shredding and going through files, and preparing to shred some more. I guess I really don’t need the milk bills from 1999!! By the end of next week I hope to have ALL my files checked through, culled, reorganized and refiled. Then I will make a Document Locator File with lists of all the important stuff telling where I can find what… whether it’s in the file cabinet, or in the closet, or in a safe deposit box at the bank, or under the mattress!!

Yes, I do feel like I have accomplished something today.

…next week, the bookshelves!!

Learning to Listen

I was reading an article this morning, and this statement by President Jordan of Gallaudet University really impressed me. This applies to both people who are deaf and people who have hearing.

“I’ve had to become a really good listener, which I hadn’t been. And think before speaking. I used to talk really fast. Now I try hard to think first and speak second or better still, not speak at all. Understand and respect different points of view. I’ve learned how life experiences lead people to different ways of seeing the world. I didn’t always understand that and still don’t as much as I should. But now I more often think, Why does that person see this differently? What am I missing? What experience led him or her to think this?” –Gallaudet President I. King Jordan

This reminds me of James 1:19 “…Let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger…”
