I’m a 57-year-old Wife, Mom, Grandma, Daughter of the Living God. I am very, very blessed in that my husband supports me fully. Actually, we support each other, and it’s not just that he brings home the paychecks and I spend them!
I’ve been working with computers since I was in college (1965-1969) where I learned tatting (threaded lace-making) and key-punching… both in the same office on the campus of Kansas State University. To key-punch, means to key letters & numbers into a machine that punches corresponding holes out of computer cards, with all sorts of information, including Fortran programming. So I picked up a basic familiarity with the languange… enough to know when what I had been given to punch had not been written correctly (minor “typos”).
I’ve been interested and active with computers ever since, although I have never gotten into the programming or creative side as my three sons have done. I use computers as tools in my daily living.
I like to read! I don’t like to read online or from the computer monitor, but I do. I much, much, much prefer to read books. Give me paper that I can hold, smell, feel, and mark!! (I’m a kinesthetic person.)
I like to write… informally. I journal for my personal use, and occasionally write poety, and I’m writing this blog! Why the blog? Because I like to share my joys, my recipes, my thoughts, my life. I love to share photos!!
So come along with me and share Life!

My friend, Kathleen Dillard, recently broke her ankle while on a visit to Jerusalem. She shares about one of her experiences here (click on APR 2005).
She goes on to share Five High Points of being “Down, but not out”. I quote here from the newsletter:
The Power of Weakness:
Weakness helps you remember that you need some-One bigger than yourself to lean on. “My power is made perfect in weakness.” -2Co.12:9
Weakness can make you humble, and thereʼs nothing bad about that. “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” -Jas2:6
Weakness can make you cling to God. “If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit.” -Jn15:5
Weakness attracts Godʼs attention. “God chose the weak things.” -1Cor.1:27
Weakness helps you connect with others who are going through tough times. “Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” -2Cor 1:4
Thanks, Kathleen, for this timely reminder. And in my weakness, “…I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus… …I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:12-14)
Not in my own strength, but in His. Thanks, God.

Steve has a post about Renovate Portsmouth in his blog today. Check it out. If you like geekery, you’ll enjoy reading through his other posts, too. My husband, Richard, is instigating and coordinating this event along with a very active, dedicated group of folks from the Port Norfolk and Park View historic neighborhoods in Portsmouth, VA.

I’m trying to do some gardening this year. Our house sits on a double lot, which was totally beautifully landscaped when we moved in nearly five years ago. Today, the basics remain, but I have been a horrible gardener, so the weeds have taken over. A couple of Master Gardeners helped clean things up after Hurricane Isabel. Last year, three sisters earned some money from me by thoroughly weeding the Williamsburg-style garden.
.
So far, I have replanted Strawberries, weeded one 8′x8′ square plot, put in a few tomato plants and lettuce plants. I’ve also planted onion and garlic sets and a row of okra seeds! YEA!

Next, I will weed the second 8′x8′ plot. I plan to plant carrots and radishes, along with watermelon & cantaloupe. Yum!
There is SO much to do, I’m sure I’ll keep busy all summer!! Most of all, I’m looking forward to home-grown salads!
